Android OS based Motorola Milestone 2 Unveiled

"Motorola has just taken the wraps off the Milestone 2, the European version of the Motorola Droid 2. As such, this smartphone is going to run Android OS 2.2 on a 1 GHz processor, and have a 3.7-inch Touchscreen and sliding keyboard. The most significant difference between the Milestone 2 and the Droid 2 is the inclusion of MotoBlur. Verizon passed on this custom user interface, while Motorola decided to include it on the European version. Of course, the upcoming version is going to support the GSM/HSPA networks used in Europe, and will also include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1. It will be able to act as a mobile hotspot. The Milestone 2 is going to be a slider with a 3.7-inch WVGA display and a landscape-oriented keyboard. It will have a 5 megapixel camera and, unlike its U.S. equivalent, the ability to record 720p HD video. Because this smartphone is going to run Google Android OS 2.2, it will have support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1, giving users access to websites that employ Flash. This operating system also brings a very capable web browser, email software, music and video player, and the the web browser supports Adobe Flash. The second Milestone model will include 8 GB of on-board storage as well as an 8 GB microSD/SDHC memory card. The Motorola Milestone 2 will launch in Europe at some point in the fourth quarter of this year. Pricing has not yet been announced." via brighthand.com

Samsung Galaxy TAB. First Look

"Samsung suffers from the lack of Super AMOLED screens for Wave and Galaxy S. The demand is so high that it will be matched by supply no sooner than by the summer of 2011, even taking into account the opening of a plant to manufacture screens in the final quarter of this year. It is quite a drag for Samsung, because all future flagships are expected to be equipped with Super AMOLED screens, which are not available in necessary quantities. That is why there is no Super AMOLED in the tablet. Characteristics of future flagships are up in the air. Will they get this screen and which model (Wave or Galaxy S) will be sacrificed? I hope this paragraph vividly explains why Samsung TAB features an ordinary TFT screen." Read more here:

Android Market has the largest share of free apps. Read why!

distimo3.png

Per the chart above, Google Android Market has the largest share of free applications available; 60%,
representing an increase of 3% since May 2010 when it was 57%. The share of free applications is smallest
on Windows Marketplace for Mobile (22%), followed by the Apple App Store for iPad (26%) and BlackBerry
App World (26%).

The large share of free applications in Google Android Market may be influenced by the fact that developers
from only 9 countries are currently able to distribute paid applications in Google Android Market
, and by
the fact that users from only 14 countries are able to download paid applications (out of the 46 countries
where Google Android Market is currently available). Additionally, users need to register for a Google
Checkout account in order to download paid applications in Google Android Market (except for the
locations where operator billing is available).

HTC Aria review: The little tenor

Close window

"The front has changed a bit – mostly the keys and the fresh addition of an optical trackpad. The signature screws on the back are here again – they serve both a decorative and a practical purpose, not to mention they make the HTC Aria look tough and rugged. Other than that, the HTC Aria promises the same solid user experience as the other HTC droids with Sense UI. It comes with a great software package out of the box (Office document viewer, social networking apps) so we don’t anticipate any problems on that score. The HTC Android genealogy is getting quite tangled up – the Legend is Hero’s successor and the Wildfire is a bite-sized Desire, with the HTC Aria sitting somewhere in-between those two.The devil’s in the details though. Its specs are very close to both the Wildfire and the Legend, so it’s going to be the minor differences that decide which one you get. So, pay attention as we open up the box and examine the hardware of the Aria." Read more here:

Dell Streak Review at brighthand!

" The centerpiece of the Dell Streak is its 5-inch, 800 x 480 pixel (WVGA) capacitive touchscreen. This largedisplay allows you to get more done with this device than you would on a smaller smartphone. It makes web browsing better, emails easier to read, and is a blessing for watching video and reading ebooks. Colors are great, and thisscreen offers a wide range of viewing angles, so it's possible for two people to watch a movie together. Itisn't too bad a fingerprint magnet -- it's no worse than any other item you regularly rub your fingers on." Read more here:

Review of HTC Wildfire GSM UMTS Smartphone

"If you go to the website of HTC you will read that Wildfire as any other smartphone of the company is aimed at "communication and exchange of joys of life with friends". To some extent this is true as for any other modern phone. In reality HTC Wildfire is different from the rest of the company's lineup. Without beating around the bush we can say that Wildfire is a cheap HTC smartphone. PR departments ask not to use the word "cheap" and substitute it by "inexpensive", but in the case of HTC Wildfire we have a cheap smartphone. It is the most accessible solution among current Android models of the company (I know the price of uncertified HTC Hero and you can still buy Tattoo)." Read more here:

Review of GSM UMTS Smartphone Nokia E73

"The E73 employs exactly the same display as its predecessor, although due the fact that the ambient light sensor works in a slightly different manner, it may seem that Nokia have done something about it. The E73 utilizes a 2.36-inch QVGA display (320x240 pixels, 48x36mm), capable of up to 16 million colors. It manages to output a pretty decent picture quality-wise that remains readable in various environments (it doesn't fade away in the sun at that, all thanks to the mirror underlayer)." webOS developer spots device with Retina matching resolution in logs

"A few weeks ago, we told you about a foursquare application developer that discovered traces of webOS 2.0 in their application logs. While the information would have been very hard to fake, it would have been technically feasible due to the fact that foursquare’s API is open source. Today, PreCentral is reporting that a closed-source game titled Cloud Hopper has discovered traces of webOS 2.0 in their logs, along with a device that has a screen resolution of 640 x 960; the same resolution as the iPhone 4’s Retina display. Whether this device is a prototype of the fabled HP webOS tablet or – fingers crossed Palm’s next webOS smartphone, no one knows. It is nice to finally get a few snippets of information (as small as they are) to let us know that webOS hardware development is marching along… even if it is very slowly." via boygeniusreport.com

Nokia E5 review: Textbook texter

align="Email used to be a part of the corporate world and now it’s increasingly becoming an essential means of communication for the lot of us – not just the white-collar kind. So if you can’t fight it, the best thing to do is get yourself properly equipped – and the Nokia E5 is the right tool for the job. It’s no old timer either, it knows how to deal with those newfangled social networks as well.
The E5 has skill to match the E72 down to the last spec. OK, almost. Some features have sure taken a hit (what’s with the fixed-focus 5MP camera), but that’s something most people can live with considering the lower price of the E5.
We found the Nokia C3 to be an excellent no-frills messenger. The Nokia E5 brings Symbian aboard, which accounts for many of its advantages – multitasking, Office document viewing and editing, free voice-guided navigation – you know the drill.
The Nokia E5 is probably targeted at young people stuck in a corporate environment. Or maybe it’s caught in the trend of more and more companies betting on social networking to boost sales. Whatever the reason, the Nokia E5 has pretty extensive support for social networks and IM chatting to go along with strictly-business offerings like the Microsoft Office messenger." Read more here:

DivX Mobile Player 1.0 for Symbian now available

align="Never mind the date on the official download page, DivX Labs has officially released v1.0 of their ubiquitous mobile player for all S60 3rd Edition and 5th Edition smartphones (direct SISx links). Version 1.0 "has numerous updates and simplifications to the UI. It also has touch-screen support for S60 5th Edition users." Initial feedback shows that desktop class DivX files (unsurprisingly) generally have bitrates that are too high for the limited processor speed in most current Symbian handsets. A figure of 600kbps is recommended as a maximum.

From the announcement page (again, ignore the date):

"ATTENTION: We have released a new 1.0 version for Symbian S60 3rd and 5th edition phones.

Even if your phone isn't officially DivX Certified, you may still be able to watch DivX® videos by downloading and installing the DivX Mobile Player. Find out below if your phone supports the DivX Mobile Player and follow the link to download according to your phone’s operating system.

DivX Mobile Player 1.0 is beta software available for a limited time only and will expire.
For the older 0.94 release, please scroll down to the bottom of the page.

Preliminary Review of Samsung Wave 525 (S5250) GSM Phone

"Even without Wave 525 Samsung has enough of entry level touchscreen models. Take the latest Corby 3G or its predecessors. The emergence of Bada shifts the priorities of the Korean manufacturer. Samsung will gradually move from proprietary systems to Bada. It means that Samsung Wave and Wave 525 together with several unannounced models are just first in the line and as Bada matures they will be complemented by an array of other devices on this Samsung signature platform. Wave 525 will be followed by its version with the keypad under the name of Wave 2 Pro (S5330). Both models will compete in the niche of entry level touchscreen phones, while the current Samsung solutions will move down. Among rival models we have touchscreen phones from Nokia and SE. The introduction of new devices in the Wave series shows that Bada is important for the company and the correspondent models will be aimed at the mass market. Wave 2 will be the prime example of the trend." Read more here:
